Andrew Paterson

Bio

I’m an NHS Consultant in the Maxillofacial Unit at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock. I’m married to Libby ( who also runs ultras) and we have three sons and a daughter. I’m doing a PhD in healthcare ethics in the developing world so when not running I spend a fair bit of time in rural health centres in Tanzania.

Ultra History

Chequered to say the least! First ultra in 2012. I’m slow but determined and have spent too many races making cut offs by a whisker. 2016 saw me do Fling, Devil and Great Glen – longest to date.

Why West Highland Way?

I live near the start – I run bits of it every week – I love the route in all seasons and weathers particularly the loch side and the Lairig Mor. Just had to give it a go – because I’m daft enough to  think I can!

Aim for the race

Simply to finish – and to have enough to time for a shower before the goblet ceremony!
