I’m Martyn Neilson, I will be 36 come the the race. I currently live in Dollar, Clackmannanshire, Scotland with my wife and our 3 dogs. I recently left the RAF (Police Dog handler) after 13 years service.
I ran a road marathon in 2012 just to tick the box (didn’t really enjoy it!). I didn’t run properly again until 2014. I would say that 2016 was when I started training properly, and completed a handful of marathons and smaller Ultras. 2017 I have completed a number of longer events. The Cateran 55, Ochills Ultra (50) and Glencoe Ultra naming a few.
Why whw race?
The West Highland Way race seemed like an insane challenge, yet that’s exactly what I’ve wanted for the last year. Love the history of the race and the route through stunning scenery. This race will be the furthest I’ve ran by 40 miles and this is the next challenge I want to aim for.
Aim for the race?
My aim is just to complete…. but if I’m being honest then close to 24 hours would be amazing!
