I’m a thirty something runner from the southside of Glasgow. I work as a grocery delivery driver for Sainsbury’s.
My history in running started in 2011 after realising the twisting and turning of playing football was too much for my knees (I have the turning circle of an oil tanker). I entered my first ultra marathon in 2012 when I completed the Clyde Stride and have never looked back since. With the Highland Fling being my longest races so far, this will be quite a step up for me. However, with the right training and judging my efforts on the day, it will be fine!
Why the WHW?
Growing up in the west of Scotland, it’s a trail I’ve often walked and ran along. I’ve always enjoyed the mixed terrain and the stunning views along ‘the way’. In 2016 I was lucky enough to be a WHW race support runner for my good friend Liam McGregor in which I ran the second half with him. It was at a point between Kinlochleven and Lundavra as the sun was coming up I thought, “I’ll have some of this one day”.
Aim for the race?
With this being my first WHW race, my aim is to complete it within the 35hrs and pick up the famous goblet!
