I’m Iona, I’m married to Craig and I live in Alloa in Scotland with our Border collie Skye. I started running again in 2008 after being quite good at cross country when at school but then got a bit lazy during my Uni years. I didn’t discover ultras until 2013 with my first being the very wet Glen Ogle!
After Glen Ogle 2013 I was definitely hooked and have now completed 17 ultras. My highlights to date are definitely my first West Highland Way race in 2016, the Great Glen this year where I placed 2nd female and my first ultra win at this years River Ayr Way race.
Why the WHW?
After marshaling at the race in 2015 I was hooked. I didn’t think I’d be ready to put an entry in for the 2016 race, but as soon as the ballot opened I found myself submitting an entry and being offered a place. The race has a magical feel to it and once you are involved you are most definitely hooked! I was delighted to finish the race in well under my predicted time and without falling apart! I supported a friend in 2017 and loved seeing the race from a different perspective and couldn’t wait to submit an entry for 2018 to hopefully get to run the race again.
Aim for the race?
To finish faster than in 2016. Under 22 hours would be amazing, closer to 21 would be the dream come true. Here’s to 6 months of hard work!!
