An annual informal evening of advice and inspiration. This evening is for anyone – or their support crew – tackling this iconic 95-mile challenge, for the first or tenth time. Also of interest for a similar or shorter ultra challenge, like the Highland Fling, Devil o’ the Highlands etc. As always, we aim to provide a full 2 hours of information and inspiration to help you prepare better for whatever challenges you have ahead. Event co-ordinated by Run and Become and the West Highland Way Race. Full line up of speakers and topics includes:

LUCY COLQUHOUN

Lucy set the current ladies record for the West Highland Way in 2007 when she ran 17hrs 16mins and 20seconds finishing second overall that year behind Adrian Davis.  She was also the last British Lady to win the CCC,and amongst other things still holds the record for the Lairig Ghru Race. She has represented  both GB  and Scotland on the roads at 100km and also on the trails. Still surprised that her record is still standing, Lucy will chat about how she approached and trained for not just the WHW, but some of her other races too.

SEAN STONE & ADRIAN STOTT

Sean & Adrian will give a joint presentation on some of the basic medical issues that can be encountered in a 100 mile event combined with some classic tips on, how not to over train for the event! Sean has been part of the West Highland Way Race medical team for over 10 years and has had to deal with all manor of issues the race runners present themselves with! He also helps at other ultra events throughout Scotland. Adrian has been involved with the race in some way since 1991, either running, supporting, or helping organise. Sean will take you through a selection of the potential medical problems and hazards that may impact on your ability to complete the distance. Adrian will give a brief talk on what overtraining is, how to recognise signs of overtraining and how to be smart enough to avoid it and get to the start line in one piece.

ALTRA RUNNING SHOES

With the help of a short video, Matt Bond from Altra will give a short talk on how Altra shoes were developed from an idea into what is now a very popular and successful running brand.
