Delighted to share this correspondence with the President of the Western States 100. What a fantastic attitude from the organisers of the world’s longest established ultra marathon.

Thank you for your e-mail. I am delighted that you have selected the West Highland Way Race as a qualifying race once again for the Western States 100. We believe that the West Highland Way Race is the longest established ultra-marathon in Europe, so to share a bond with your iconic event is a great source of pride to us. Each year we have visitors from the United States to our race, many of whom have run the Western States 100 in previous years. In fact last year Hal Koerner came across; it was fantastic to meet him, and helped cement the close bond between ultra-running in both our countries.

We are pleased to inform you that the 2018 West Highland Way has been selected as a qualifying race for the 2019 Western States 100. Runners who complete the race within 30 hours will qualify to enter a lottery where the field for Western States will be selected. You do not need to submit anything to us, we will obtain the results directly from your website.
The qualifying period for the 2019 Western States will be from November 6, 2017 through November 4, 2018. The lottery will be held on December 1, 2018 and the race itself will be run on June 29, 2019.
We have attached a jpg file which you may wish to add to your website announcing your selection as a qualifying race. Congratulations, and from the entire Western States family, thanks for all the great work you are doing for our sport!
